Retail investors continue to use mutual funds as a preferred tool to invest in capital markets.Mutual funds added 12.61 lakh folios in the June quarter, up 2.65% from the January-March period, taking the tally to a high of 4.89 crore, according to the data issued by the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI).
SIP mobilisation per month for the industry has increased from Rs.1,100 crores a couple of years back to Rs.3,200 crore and the number of SIPs has touched 1.06 crore.
Data from Crisil suggest that retail folios -95% of total folios-grew for the seventh quarter on the trot. In the latest quarter, 11.42 lakh folios were added (against 17.05 lakh folios in the preceding quarter) to take the count to a six-year high of 4.65 crore. Retail investors continued to pour money in equity-oriented funds for the seventh consecutive quarter as markets rallied with the equity-oriented funds adding 5.81 lakh folios to reach 3.54 crore. Among other categories, balanced funds, with higher orientation towards equity , too saw good addition. The category added 1.09 lakh retail folios in the June quarter to push the total to 24.47 lakh.
