Top Militant Shot Dead in Kashmir

Even as the government forces killed one of the senior militant commanders Muzaffer Naikoo of Al Badr, on Thursday night, growing militancy in Valley remains a major concern for the Mehbooba Mufti led PDP-BJP coalition in the state.

Naikoo alias Muzza Molvi was killed in Muchwa area on the outskirts of Srinagar, during a cordon and search operation, while acting on a tip off regarding presence of militants in the area.
Police claims that Naikoo lobbed a grenade and was killed in the ensuing encounter. However, locals contradict the police statement claiming that the firing continued for a very brief period at around 11:25 pm, as they suspect that Naikoo was “brought along by the forces to the encounter site and shot dead.

Hundreds of people, despite heavy snowfall, participated in the funeral prayers of Naikoo at his native place in Sopore area of north Kashmir.

After five month uprising in 2016, PDP-BJP government may have managed to control the streets with more than 13000 detentions and around 14000 injuries the number of locals joining the militant ranks was highest in last year. Of around 90 local youth who joined militant ranks in 2016, 59 boys joined after the killing of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016.
