The river Musi is all set to undergo a major facelift, with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) drawing up plans to conserve and develop Musi riverfront, from surplus weir of Himayatsagar and Osmansagar to Bapughat covering a distance of 19 kms, into a recreational spot. HMDA recently invited request for proposal (RFP) for appointing consultants for preparing a feasibility study as per the guidelines of the National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD) and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) under NRCD Phase I has mainly constructed sewerage treatment plants (STPs).
Officials said the purpose of the feasibility study is to restore Musi and develop the riverfront as a tourist spot. “Once the project report is ready, the earlier report prepared by GHMC and other proposals related to Musi riverfront development would be integrated before approving it. The proposals would be sent to NRCD for funding. While the NRCD gives 70% of the cost, the balance amount would be borne by the state government and the authority,” a senior HMDA official said.
“The last date for receiving request for proposals will be August 27 and bids will be finalised by the end of August,” a senior HMDA official said.
