Rajasthan prepares Master Plan for Villages

A master plan for a village might sound surprising in a country where it is used only in the urban context but Rajasthan has taken the lead in preparing master plans for about 100 villages with more than 10,000 population. The state is now planning to cover villages that have over 5,000 population.
“The aim is to freeze the land for public purpose including roads, water bodies and schools. These plans can be easily implemented by panchayats,” said additional chief secretary urban development and chairman of Rajasthan State Real Estate Development Council Gurdial Singh Sandhu.
He added that the state has prepared master plans for 184 towns.
Former president of Institute of Town Planners India H R Suri said the government must ensure that every inch of land for agriculture, forest, water resources, mining and conservation areas are protected.
