Navi Mumbai Airport update

In what may be the highest-ever compensation package, those affected by the proposed Navi Mumbai airport, set to come up on 400 hectares, will get an additional 10% developed land, over and above the 12.5% offered against land acquisitions.
The compensation decision, taken by the Cidco, reportedly received a nod on Monday at a meeting of state ministers, led by CM Prithviraj Chavan.
The meeting, held at Sahyadri guesthouse, was attended by industries minister Narayan Rane, irrigation minister Sunil Tatkare, excise minister Ganesh Naik and several public representatives and senior bureaucrats. The proposed airport has been included in the list of priority projects by the Prime Minister.
“The revised offer is the best deal ever. The CM and others were convinced with the Cidco’s new plan to take the project forward,” a senior Mantralaya official, who was present at the meeting, said. “The CM and Cidco officials will meet once more before making the final compensation announcement,” he said.
While the project affected persons (PAPs) have been asking for more land, money, and other benefits such as job, government sources said the revised land offer was more profiteering than anything else as it is more sustainable and the displaced could reap its benefits in the long run.
