Somewhere in Kerala....

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dedicated the Rs.4,500 crore Petronet LNG terminal at Puthuvype near Kochi to the nation, a project that has the potential to change the face of Kerala while increasing India’s leverage in securing more equitable gas prices globally.
“Asia has been the driver of the global LNG demand in recent times. It is therefore important that major buyers of LNG in Asia come together to demand a fair pricing mechanism for gas being imported
from outside of Asia,” the Prime Minister said.
High import price of LNG continues to be a major dampener for Indian industries to migrate from liquid fuel to gas, and industry experts were quick to warm up to the PM’s suggestion. The recent Asia Gas Partnership Summit held in Delhi had also suggested the launch of a regional price index for gas jointly by countries in the region.
The PM pointed out that import of gas would be unavoidable for India in future as the country has only 1% of the world’s known natural gas reserves. Union minister M Veerappa Moily, who was present at the function, said natural gas accounts for only 9% of fuel mix, and the country was planning to hike it to 20% by 2025.
Earlier in the day, the PM inaugurated the total e-literacy programme, devised by the P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra, in Thiruvananthapuram.
