Kejriwal re-launches anti-graft helpline

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal dusted up his crusader image to connect with supporters on Sunday , launching a revamped 24x7 anti-graft helpline and promising to make Delhi the country's “first corruption-free city“. The helpline, 1031, which empowers Delhiites to carry out stings and recordings as evidence, had received 5,500 calls in the first hour of its relaunch. The function was held at a packed Talkatora stadium to coincide with the fourth anniversary of Anna Hazare's first call against corruption from Jantar Mantar.
While making the fight against corruption a key plank for sustaining support for his party, Kejriwal also used the occasion as a show of strength with all 66 MLAs in attendance. He said a big conspiracy had been hatched to defame him and his government by “vested interests“ who did not want the AAP regime to succeed. Kejriwal launched the service through a mock call to the helpline. The audience clapped and watched the CM play the perfect “aam aadmi“. Kejriwal then used the platform to take on the BJP-led Centre for failing to curb corruption and instead diluting the powers of the anti corruption branch in Delhi.
Kejriwal publicly declared that he and his government rejected the Centre's notification which prevents Delhi ACB from taking action against officers linked to the Delhi government alone.
He said he had asked officers to allow every common person to carry mobile phones into their rooms.
Anti-corruption measures taken in its previous stint of 49 days were one of the three main reasons for AAP's massive mandate in the recent assembly polls, the CM asserted. The other two reasons being reduction of water and power bills by way of a subsidy.
“Hum jo kehtey hain who kartey hain. Hum jumley nahin khetey. (We do what we say. We don't say things for the sake of saying),“ he said, taking a dig at the Modi government in its unfulfilled promise of bringing back black money to India.
Building on the emotions of an overwhelmed crowd, Kejriwal said, “We will take action against our own minister and MLAs if they are found corrupt. Even deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and I will be jailed if we are found to be corrupt,“ Kejriwal said.
