After all the hoopla around the CNG and diesel debate, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has finally initiated the process of construction of bus stops. The AMC standing committee passed a proposal of construction of 28 bus stops along the BRTS phase -1 route.
Officials have yet not revealed the location of these stops, but then a budget of Rs 13.57 crore for the purpose has been passed.Each of these bus stops would be constructed at a cost of Rs 42.5 lakh. The contract was awarded to the second lowest bidder, MPC Snehal constructions. The construction company will start with two bus shelters. According to deadlines agreed by Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL) around 18 bus stops were to be constructed by the end of September and the remaining 12 were to be constructed by December 2009. This may now take an additional month, say AMC officers.Bus shelters would have parking area for autorickshaws, bicycles and two-wheelers.
