The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) administration presented a Rs 700-crore project for nine flyovers, five river bridges, three railway over bridges and one elevated road before the standing committee, arguing that until a full fledged public transport system is put in place in the city, the current traffic could be decongested through the proposed roads and bridges. The comprehensive mobility project (CMP) for the city already submitted to the corporation by a consultant agency, is estimated at Rs 19,000 crore but with no certainty where the money will come from, work on the project may take years to actually take off.Meanwhile, money for the 18 projects proposed to the standing committee on Tuesday will be raised either from a private financier, developed countries like Japan which have shown eagerness or through a soft loan from the State or Central government.
The 18 projects are among the 41 planned to be implemented by the special purpose vehicle (SPV) that the municipal corporation would float soon, officials said.
However, the Rs 700 crore cost pertains to the 18 projects only. Rest of the cost is yet to be estimated.Flyovers are planned at Yerwada-Purnakuti junction,COEP,Juna Bazar,Null Stop on Karve Road,Shastri Nagar,Nagar Road-Mundhwa and Nagar Road-Hadapsar.
