RIL's Raigad Power plant gets going

The Ministry of Environment and Forests has given environment clearance to Reliance Industries Limited's (RIL) proposed 800-mw Gas-based combined cycle power plant in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The project entails an investment close to Rs 3,200 crore. The company is in the midst of development of Revas port in Raigad district and the upcoming project is expected to come up in its vicinity. The project will run on 3.6 million metric standard cubic meter per day (MMSCMD) of gas, which will be sourced from RIL's Krishna-Godavari basin. However, informed sources said the gas will initially be transferred to the site via the envisaged 140-km long East West Pipeline (EWPL) through Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat which RIL is currently in the process of setting up.
Subsequently, the gas supplies will reach the plant via GAIL India's network of Dahej-Uran-Panvel-Dabhol and Ambewadi-User gas pipelines. The total land requirement for the project is pegged at 90 acres. The proposed project area is located out side the coastal regulatory zone (CRZ) area. The 24.9 MLD m3/day water requirement for the project will be sourced from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC).
