IndiGo remains #1


Low cost carrier, IndiGo once again emerged as the market leader, with the airline carrying the highest number of passengers and claiming the largest market share in September.
The no-frill airline carried 10.94 lakh passengers and claimed 27.2 per cent market share last month. The domestic airlines witnessed a 0.5 per cent dip in terms of total number of passengers carried between January and September against the corresponding period last year.
Between January and September this year, a total of 438.39 lakh passenger flew on domestic airlines, while in the corresponding period last year the number was 442.18 lakh, a dip of 0.9 per cent. In September, there was a dip of 3.51 lakh passengers compared with August. The domestic scheduled operators carried a total of 40.18 lakh passengers last month while in August they flew 43.69 lakh.
National carrier Air India, which was at fourth place in August in terms of total number of passenger carried, also improved its position to third place in September followed by Jet Airways and JetLite combine.
Air India carried 7.75 lakh passenger while Jet (7.29 lakh) and JetLite (2.29 lakh) combined carried 9.58 lakh fliers, while other no frill carriers, SpiceJet carried 7.43 lakh, GoAir 3.07 lakh.
Beleaguered Kingfisher Airlines, which once had second largest market share, was the worst performer with carrying just 1.41 lakh passengers while the new scheduled carrier Air Mantra of Religare, which is operating only two small 17-seater aircraft since July 23, flew 200 hundred air travellers to Chandigarh and Amritsar.
In terms of market share, IndiGo was again on top with 27.2 per cent, followed by Jet-JetLite combine with 25.6, Air India 19.3, SpiceJet with 18.5, GoAir with 7.6 and Kingfisher at the end of the list with 3.5 per cent.
