Gujarat Stats

Chief minister Narendra Modi may be trying to hardsell Gujarat’s growth story. But the socio-economic survey tabled in the assembly is anything but flattering.
The survey shows that all three sectors -- manufacturing, agriculture and services – have taken a hit in the last three years, dragging the state’s growth rate down at both current and constant prices. Gujarat’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth rate has is on a downward slide since three years constantly.
Finance minister Nitin Patel brushed aside the query on declining growth and principal secretary (finance) Hasmukh Adhia said that the issue pertains to planning and not finance.
In 2013-14 also it is unlikely that the state can match the 2009-10 growth rate.
The state’s GSDP is measured at constant prices as well as at current prices. This is the most important single economic indicator used to measure the growth and study the structural changes taking place in the economy.
