SCLR update

The much-awaited Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) cleared a major hurdle recently when the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) received in-principal approval for the construction of a railway over-bridge (RoB) on the main central line near Kurla terminus.

The nod from the Central Railway was one of the prime reasons for the prolonged delay in the construction of the all important link road.
MSRDC officials said the commissioner for railway safety had approved the RoB with some changes to be made to the method of girder launching.
For a long time, the two agencies could not come to an agreement on the design for the RoB. The railways had turned down the state’s plan to construct a permanent pier between the railway tracks on the central line citing danger to train traffic. The state agency will now build a temporary pier to facilitate launching of girders.
With the new development, the corporation will reduce further delay and will only need six months to construct the RoB.
