A dissidence-riddled Congress in Assam put up a united stand to give Prime Minister Manmohan Singh his fifth consecutive electoral victory to the Rajya Sabha from the state. The party’s other candidate, Santiuse Kujur, also won from the second seat.
After counting of ballots in the evening, returning officer and principal secretary, Gauranga Das, declared Manmohan Singh and Kujur the winners.
