Petrol price hiked

State-run fuel retailers have hiked the price of petrol from Sunday by Rs.2 a litre, excluding state taxes, to offset the twin effects of the rupee’s sharp fall against the dollar and hardening of the fuel’s price in international trading hubs.
Petrol price in Delhi will go up by Rs.2.40 a litre to Rs.66.39 from Rs.63.99. Market leader IndianOil said the new prices would come into effect from the intervening midnight between Saturday and Sunday.
This is the second increase in petrol price in a fortnight. Retailers had last hiked petrol price on June 1 by 75 paise a litre, reversing a three-month trend that had seen subsequent reductions aggregating over Rs.6 a litre in the fuel’s price.
