Dharavi Revamp snippets

In a major development in the ambitious Dharavi redevelopment scheme, Ernst and Young (EY) won the bid as the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the project.
While the revamp for sector 5 of the slum is being handled by Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada), EY will handle sectors 1 to 4.
According to a senior official of the Dharavi Redevelopment Authority (DRA), EY won the bid on the basis of financial bids it had submitted to the DRP.
“EY’s Rs.1.01-crore bid as fees for the project was the lowest among the three bidders,” said the official. “The company will conduct a feasibility study, explore alternatives to revamp the sectors and also suggest how to go about the tendering process.”
The two other bidders were Darashaw and CBRE, an international real estate consultancy firm. The DRP will now forward this appointment to the state government for a final approval and the tenure of the consultants will be 18 months.
The Dharavi revamp is one of the biggest projects that was initiated by the state government in 2004, and is aimed at turning India’s largest slum into a plush township.
The DRA official also added that the fate of the other projects would depend on the report submitted by the consultant. “We will make observations on EY’s report, following which the entire thing will be handed over to the state,” said the official.
