Passengers disembarking at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport will not have to pay for cabs to get to other terminals from Wednesday as the inter-terminus link (ITL) connecting domestic and international sections will be operational.
The ITL will operate from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm and from 4 am to 7 am.
Following a request by a private airline, SpiceJet, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to begin the operations of ITL for public use. It consists of a walkalator and lift. The ITL was lying unused for the past three years due to negligible passengers in transit.
The trial run of the ITL was conducted a week back. We received request from SpiceJet for ITL use as they have direct flights for Dubai, said R K Singh, the airport director.
SpiceJet is the only Indian private airline that operates direct flight from Ahmedabad to Dubai. The ITL has been made to help passengers easily move from domestic to international terminal and vice-versa through an underground walkalator. The ITL was made at the cost of Rs 40 crore in 2010.
