In a letter to Modi, Sonia said: “As you are aware, the AP Reorganization Act contains various investment and other commitments by the government of India in the successor state of AP. The then Prime Minister and the then Home Minister had also made certain further commitments on the floor of the Rajya Sabha on February 20, 2014, on which the Union Cabinet had taken certain decisions.
According to the Congress chief, the groundwork for many of them, like in the area of water resources, grant of special category status and facilitating the Polavaram project had already been laid by the erstwhile UPA government. “I do hope that your administration will build on what we had accomplished and take them forward,“ she said and assured the party leaders of cooperation of her party in ensuring that the commitments made to AP are fulfilled both in letter and spirit.
Sonia then listed the commitments made by the UPA government ministry-wise, of which the NDA government has so far issued the ordinance transferring seven mandals from Telangana's Khammam district to AP's East Godavari district in connection with the Polavaram project. The commitment on allotment of personnel between AP and Telangana is in the final stages and should happen very soon.
