5 new IITs and IIMs

Five new Indian Institutes of Technology, five new Indian Institutes of Management, four new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, 12 more government medical colleges and new agriculture and horticulture universities -the education and skills development sector reaped rich dividends from the Modi government's focus on these areas as finance minister Arun Jaitley laid out a series of proposals in his maiden budget.
Jaitley has set aside Rs.500 crore for setting up four AIIMS-style institutions in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Vidarbha in Maharashtra and UP.
The finance minister has pro posed five new IIMs in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, Odisha and Maharashtra and five IITs in Jammu, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, in addition to the existing 13 and 17 IIMs and IITs, respectively. A sum of Rs.500 crore has been allocated for these, which includes setting up the Jai Prakash Narayan National Centre for Excellence in Humanities in Madhya Pradesh. The government also intends to ease and simplify norms to facilitate education loans for higher studies.
