Sensex ends above 26,000

Markets seem to have thrown caution to the wind in this pre-budget rally with benchmark indices scaling new highs every day as investors bet on hopes of growth-oriented policy announcements in the Narendra Modi-led government’s maiden budget.
The BSE Sensex on Monday closed above the 26,000 mark for the first time in its history, a gain of 138 points, or 0.5%, to 26,100.08. It hit an all-time high of 26,123.55 intra-day.
The broader 50-share NSE Nifty also rose 36 points, or 0.5%, to close at a new peak of 7,787.15 after touching a lifetime high of 7,792.00 during intra-day trade.
