Air traffic in India continued to grow with airlines carrying 72.7 million passengers from January to September, up 23% over last year. Traffic for the month of September grew 24% to 8.3 million.
India has been beating the world in terms of domestic traffic growth, pushed by a growing economy and the burgeoning middle class. In a passenger forecast issued on Tuesday, IATA said India will become the third-largest aviation market in the world by displacing the UK in 2026.
For the month of September, IndiGo remained the market leader, attaining a market share of 40%.
