Maha Metro

The Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited will plan and execute the Pune Metro project.
It will also be a holding company for all upcoming Metro projects in the state under the name MAHA Metro, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has said. NMRCL was selected to execute the project on Punekars' demand, said the CM, adding, “The Centre also okayed NMRCL to execute the Pune Metro project. It will be extended to Hinjewadi industrial and IT Park.“
Further, he announced that the rolling stock manufacturing unit proposed at MIDC Butibori will be given top priority in supplying coaches to all upcoming Metro projects in Maharashtra
The state government on Saturday executed a memorandum of understanding with China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRSC) to develop rolling stock manufacturing unit at MIDC Butibori, in the presence of the CM and Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari. Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) also handed over a letter of acceptance to CRRSC for supplying 69 coaches. “CRSSC will develop the manufacturing unit with an investment of Rs.1,500 crore and create over 5,000 jobs at MIDC Butibori. We will place a `Make in Maharashtra' condition in the tendering process so that CRRSC gets top priority. CRSSC should ensure quality and maintain reasonable price. As Nagpur Metro will get rolling stock at prices much lesser than other projects, it is likely to create a price war in the nation,“ Fadnavis said.
He added that Mumbai Metro will soon be extended to metropolitan regions, such as Thane and Kalyan. “The previous government could complete only a 10 km-network in Mumbai. Our government completed the entire 170 km network in just two years. The earlier government facilitated Metro rail to 70 lakh commuters in 60 years, while we cater to 80 lakh commuters within two years.“
Stressing on the need for urban solutions, the CM said that a single-ticket system will be soon launched in Mumbai, integrating all modes of urban transport. “One will be able to travel in any mode of public transport using one ticket from one corner of Mumbai to another.“
