Emerald lingam worth crores goes missing in TN

An ancient sivalingam made of emerald worth several crores of rupees at Thiyagaraja Swami temple in Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam district has gone missing. Maintained by Thirukkuvalai Dharmapuram Adheenam, the temple is one among seven dedicated to Lord Thiyagaraja (a form of Lord Siva).
Three special police teams have been formed to probe into the missing sivalingam.
According to sources, it was routine for the temple priest to perform `abishekam' to the Sivalingam at 9 am and 6.30 pm.The Lingam is kept in a locker at the temple at other times. One key of the safe is kept by the priest Ganesan and another by Ravichandran, a temple staffer.
When both the priest and the staff arrived to perform abishekam as usual during evening hours on October 9, they were shocked to see the locker open and the lingam missing. Subsequently they informed temple superintendent Sowrirajan, who in turn informed Thirukkuvalai police.
Three special teams headed by Velipalayam inspector Manikandan, Keezhaiyur inspector Vivekanandan and special branch sub inspector Srinivasan have been set up to probe the incident.
