Invoking Telugu pride, Andhra chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said five crore people of Andhra Pradesh have got a `golden opportunity' to build a world class capital for themselves which should be the envy of every country in the world. Promising to construct a capital which would be “unparalleled in the history of India“, Naidu said every Telugu should feel proud of the new capital Amaravati.
After performing the bhoomi puja at 8.49 am, as decided by astrologers, in this small village in Thullur mandal with wife Bhuvaneswari, son Lokesh, ministers and MLAs in attendence, Naidu said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would lay the foundation stone for construction of the capital on Vijayadasami day.
Addressing a well-attended public meeting after the ground-breaking ceremony, the chief minister promised to make Amaravati the tourism capital of the world. “I am fortunate to be the creator of a dream capital for Andhra Pradesh,“ he said amidst rapturous applause from the crowd. The chief minister said the capital region, with a river-front extending to a stretch of 30 km on either side, has got everything that is needed to become a worldclass capital. “Even experts from Singapore were overwhelmed by the river view of the capital city. It will not only be the administrative capital, but also a vibrant financial capital attracting investments from across the world,“ he asserted. As per the master plan prepared by experts from Singapore, which was recently approved by the government, the area, falling under the core capital region, will be the seat of power by housing the assembly , secretariat and Raj Bhavan in a sprawling 7,500 acres.
