The Union home ministry has okayed a proposal to rename Mughalsarai railway station in UP after Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyaya. As per the approved proposal, the junction will now be rechristened `Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Nagar station'.
Upadhyaya was found dead under mysterious circumstances on a railway platform in 1968. The proposal to rename Mughalsarai junction originated from the Yogi Aditya Nath government. It had sent the file to the ministry of railways for approval, which then forwarded it for the home ministry's clearance.
