The City Improvement Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation has given its nod for the high capacity mass transit route, also known as the inner ring road, at a projected cost of ₹6,646 crore.
The civic body will soon appoint a consultant for this project.

CIC president Mahesh Ladkat said that while HCMTR had been pending for years, the PMC has modified the plan and it will now be a completely elevated road. This 35.96-km road will have six lanes, of which two lanes will be reserved for the Bus Rapid Transit System.

Of the estimated cost of the project of ₹6,646 crore, ₹1,550 crore is land acquisition cost.
The PMC had formed a special cell to speed up the HCMTR works. The route was first proposed in the Development Plan of 1987.
