In exactly 200 days from Saturday, the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) will be inserted into the Martian orbit, according to the orbiter’s Facebook page.
The critical Mars orbit insertion will take place around 7.30 am on September 24, 2014. The spacecraft’s liquid apogee motor, which will reawaken after 300 days of hibernation, will fire for 1,400 seconds for the nail-biting insertion.
MOM project director Subbiah Arunan said that the spacecraft will enter Mars’ sphere of influence on September 21.
