AirAsia India gets it's first plane

AirAsia India has moved a step closer to starting its domestic operations as its new plane, an A320, arrived at Chennai airport on Saturday. This is the first aircraft the new airline has taken delivery of from Airbus. The flight was flown in by a crew of pilots and flight engineers and did not carry passengers.
The aircraft, which arrived at 9.25 am from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France, is the first one to be delivered to AirAsia India. Powered by CFM engines, it is configured in an all economy layout with 180 seats.
A statement from Airbus said that, “The Chennaibased airline will take delivery of an additional nine aircraft for its initial fleet of 10 A320 planes.”
The new airline floated by AirAsia in association with Tata Sons and Arun Bhatia of Telestra Tradeplace will have its base in Chennai. The airline is waiting for air operator permit to start domestic services from Chennai. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already allotted space for the airline in the old domestic terminal to setup its offices.
