Somewhere in UP....

In a tragic example of the loyalty and unconditional love of man's best friend, a dog who lived with a farmer in a village near Dudhwa National Park fought a tiger to save his sleeping master, dying in the process. On Friday night, in Barbatpur village, farmer Gurdev Singh slept outside his house, with four-year-old Jacky lying beside him. On sniffing a tiger approaching from the nearby south Kheri forest, Jacky tried to awaken his master.
Even as the sleepy farmer was rousing himself awake, the tiger attacked. Jacky took on the big cat, giving Gurdev just enough time to grab a stick, raise an alarm and jump to the defence. By then, the tiger had severely injured the dog and dragged it away . After rushing to Gurdev's aid, his family began a desperate search for Jacky , finding him later in the night. While forest officials were alerted about the presence of a tiger nearby , grieving family laid the hero to rest.
“Jacky's mother was a street dog and my children, Supreet and Gulshanpreet, took him in four years ago. He was part of our family. Gulshanpreet is inconsolable and didn't eat for a day . Jacky returned the favour of a few chapatis a day by giving up his life,“ said a grieving Gurdev.
