Gujarat CM Narendra Modi took a swipe at PM Manmohan Singh’s comments on “better times ahead”, saying that he shared the view but people should wait for “four to six months”, in what was seen as a reference to the BJP coming to power after the general elections.
“The Prime Minister said a good thing yesterday. He said good days are coming very soon and there is nothing to feel dejected. I agree with the Prime Minister. I don’t want to say anything more. Maybe, you should wait for four to six months. Good days are surely coming,” Modi told non-residents at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas amid peals of laughter.
These were Modi’s first comments since Singh attacked BJP’s prime ministerial candidate saying his election to the top post would be disastrous for the country. Shunning the prepare speech that was circulated, the Gujarat chief minister attacked the Congress-led coalition’s track record and shared his experience from the state in an attempt to illustrate how his government went about promoting transparency and better governance.
“A deteriorating economy; unrelenting stream of scandals and corruption exposes; poor delivery of basic services; policy paralysis, stagnating society and an overall atmosphere of divisive politics —has severely hit the people’s perception of and trust in the government and its leaders.”
