Harbour trains to run till Goregaon

A roadblock in extending the Harbour line network from Andheri to Goregaon station was cleared after the BEST recently handed over a portion of its land at Jogeshwari to the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC).
Thousands of commuters, who travel from CST to the western suburbs daily, will benefit from the extension of Harbour line services from Andheri to Goregaon. Currently, suburban trains run on the Harbour line network from CST to Andheri (via Bandra).
“The 104-sq-m plot owned by the undertaking was a hindrance to the project as it came in the way of laying new tracks,” said a BEST source. BEST general manager Om Prakash Gupta brought a proposal before the transport undertaking’s panel seeking clearance for handing over the plot for the railway project.
“The committee has cleared the proposal and we have paved the way for the extension of Andheri-Goregaon Harbour line,” said Gupta. “The work on extending the network was being undertaken by the MRVC under the MUTP-II scheme,” he added.
The project will provide much needed relief to commuters as they will get direct access from Goregaon to CST and also Panvel (using the Harbour network) in future. “The plot belonging to the BEST along the railway boundary was required for the project urgently. Since the land is transferred the work of laying tracks will be expedited,” said an MRVC source.
