A dozen international companies have showed interest in building the Navi Mumbai International Airport at Panvel, including operators of Munich, Paris and Singapore airports.
According to sources in CIDCO, who are partners in the project, the foreign airport operators interested are Zurich Airport, Changi Airports International who operates Singapore airport and have tied up with Tata Realty and Infrastructure Ltd.
Also in the race are Frankfurt Airports - Fraport AG,Hochtief Group of Germany,a consortium of Ferrovial SA and Macquarie Group Ltd, Flughafen Munchen GmbH of Munich, AĆ©roports de Paris of France, TAV Airports Holding Company of Turkey, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, ADC and HAS Airports Worldwide of Texas, Abertis Infraestructuras SA of Spain and Dublin Airport Authority Plc of Ireland.
Sanjay Bhatia, CIDCO vice-chairman and MD, confirmed meetings have been lined up. “While we have met top officials of Flughafen Zurich AG, which operates Zurich Airport, meetings with other airport developers are being scheduled,” Bhatia said.
The 1,160-hectare airport will be built on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer basis.A global tender was floated on Feb 5 for the Request For Qualification,and June 18 is the last date for applications. “We will announce the list of pre-qualified applicants for the Rs 14,574 crore project by August 5,” Bhatia said.
While CIDCO is tight-lipped, Mumbai International Airport Ltd officials said they are very much in the race.“There’s still time to make it public,but we want to be part of this project,”an official said.GVK Group,which operates MIAL, holds the first right of refusal as it falls within 150 km of the existing one operated by them.
