Chief minister Oommen Chandy will lay the foundation stone of new international terminal on Saturday. The civil works of the terminal alone will cost around Rs.285 crore. The 1.5 million square-foot terminal, expected to be ready in 30 months, would be three times bigger than the existing one and will be able to handle 4,000 passengers in an hour.
An aviation security training institute, a new 18-hole golf course, golf academy and integrated airport management system will be inaugurated during the occasion. The new golf course will become the venue of national and international championships soon, Kurian said. A national golf championship will be organized in the course in association with Professional Golf Tour of India. The championship, with prize money of Rs 50 lakh, may be held in April-May or October-November.
