Congress & NC drift away

The resounding defeat of the ruling National Conference-Congress alliance in the LS polls has forced tectonic shifts in J&K politics, with the two partners drifting away and NC deciding to go it alone in the state elections later this year.
Relations between the two parties nosedived with some Congress leaders holding anti-incumbency against NC responsible for its own defeat in Jammu region. CM Omar Abdullah emphasized that the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was one of the reasons behind public resentment against the alliance. However, analysts said Omar's inaccessibility was also a factor.
