Telangana got its first big-ticket investment since it became India's 29th State on June 2.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao laid the foundation stone for aerospace project being set up by the Tata Group and RUAG Aviation of Switzerland to manufacture fuselages and wings for the new generation Dornier 228 aircraft.
This is expected to later mature into a bigger facility for manufacturing the full Dornier aircraft being used by the Indian armed forces.
RUAG is relaunching the aircraft with new engine and fully digital cockpit. "This facility will be the backbone of the new generation aircraft," Martin Buhlmann, vice-president, RUAG, said.
This is Tata Advanced Systems', the Tata Group company which spearheads the company's interests in global aerospace, fourth project in this sector in Hyderabad.
It has a joint venture with helicopter maker Sikorsky here, which has so far delivered 70 Sikorsky s-92 copter cabins. It has another joint venture with Lockheed Martin.
