The Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro line is likely to be extended to Wadala and neighbouring Thane to form a fourth route.
The prominent destinations in Thane will be Teen Haat Naka and Kasarwadavli.
Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said the government was expecting a final feasibility report on the route within a month. The detailed report from Rites is expected by August 15.
Replying to a calling attention motion, Chavan admitted that mistakes were made with Metro 1, implemented on the build-operate-trans fer basis with private participation.
He said the Thane route would be implemented on the lines of Metro 3, which is to come up with a loan from the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation instead of involving private developers.
The statement was enough to indicate that all the routes in future would follow the Metro 3 model.
Since the opening of the Metro 1 along the VAG corridor last Sunday , the state and Reliance Infrastructure are locked in a fierce battle over tariff.
For the extension, an initial report estimates a cost of Rs.22,000 crore. There will be 29 stations on the 32 km route. At Wadala, Metro-mono rail synchronized is planned.
