Octroi will be continued in Mumbai till it is replaced by the Goods and Services Tax, said CM Prithviraj Chavan.
Replying to a calling attention motion on Local Body Tax (LBT) in the legislature, Chavan said LBT will continue in all 25 civic bodies where it is implemented until an alternative is found. “It will be collected through sales tax, as sought by traders, instead of corporations,“ he said. In Mumbai, the BMC wants to continue with octroi.
He said the state will not impose LBT without BMC consent.
