Ahmedabad Metro gets going


Finally after a decade of planning, the ambitious Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project will see the light of the day with chief minister Anandiben Patel performing the groundbreaking ceremony of the Phase-1 of the project at Vastral on Saturday.
Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Phase-1 of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project on October 18, 2014. The decision turned into the first step towards fulfilling the dream of the Gujarat Government to provide efficient and right public transport services in the city.
It was the central government which had in September last year approved the Rs.10,773 crore for the Phase-1 of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project. About 37.76 km long first phase includes two routes. The East-West Corridor will be between Thaltej to Vastral which will cover Thaltej, Doordarshan Kendra, Gurukul Road, Gujarat University, Commerce Six Roads, Stadium, Shahpur, Gheekanta, Kalupur Railway Station, Kankariya, Amraiwadi, Rabari Colony and Nirant Cross Road and other areas.
