Taking forward Telangana's flagship programme `Haritha Haram', the government has asked all the district collectors to come up with a three-year plan for developing green cover in the state.
The general administration department (GAD) has issued operational guidelines for the prestigious programme aiming to increase the total green cover in the state from 25.16% to 33%. The state government proposed to grow 230 crore saplings under Telangana Haritha Haram (THH) in the state in the next three years. Of this, 100 crore saplings will be raised in the forest area and another 120 crore outside the forest. The remaining 10 crore seedlings will be grown in Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) areas.
The potential areas for taking up the plantation outside the forest area include linear or strip planting along the roadside, national highways, canals and tank bunds, barren hills forestation, universities, hospital and dispensaries, leased areas in Singareni Collieries, open spaces in defence land, industrial estates, open spaces in bus depots and the vacant land in various religious places.
According to the circular memo issued by the chief secretary , the government will observe `Green Week' in the first week of July this year. The district collectors have been asked to prepare action plan by giving specific schedule timelines, financial requirement and works that can be completed. The state government has already constituted district-level and state-level monitoring and coordinating committees to take care of the entire THH programme. While heads of the departments will monitor the programme at the state-level, district collector will be the district-level nodal officer for executing the plans.
