The 33.5 km Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ underground line has interchangeable points at important stations like Mumbai Central, Grant Road, Mahalaxmi, Dadar and Santacruz Even as the Metro III project battles opposition from residents and activists over alignments and rehabilitation issues, the Western Railway (WR) has given its green signal to the 33.5 km Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ underground line.
Officials said issues at Mumbai Central, Grant Road and Mahalaxmi have been sorted out. According to the plan, a Metro station is proposed at Mumbai Central, opposite to the long-distance terminal on Dr Nair Marg. The Metro III line starting from Cuffe Parade will run through Nariman Point, Churchgate, CST, Girgam, Worli, Mahim, Kalina University, Dadar, Bandra, Bandra-Kurla Complex, and will terminate at SEEPZ.
Officials working on Metro III said the WR has assured that land required for the construction purposes will be made available without any delay. The authorities have conducted a joint inspection and also handed over the Google map of the sites required for Metro 3 to the railways.
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority officials said the contract is likely to be awarded by December 2015 and the project is expected to be completed in 2020.
