Modi thanks citizens for their support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised people for enthusiastically supporting the move to scrap notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 denominations and for enduring the inconvenience. In a series of tweets, the PM asserted that the demonetisation was meant to rid India of corruption and to ensure that benefits of development reached people.
“So happy to learn that citizens are expressing their gratitude to bankers and getting notes exchanged in an orderly manner,“ Modi tweeted before taking off for Japan. “It is also heartening to learn that people are volunteering to help senior citizens withdraw money and exchange their currency . Such warmth, enthusiasm and the patience to bear limited inconvenience for a greater good is indeed very heartening,“ he tweeted. “I assure you the government is unwavering in its effort to create an India that is corruption free,“ he said.
