Modi's China Mantra

As he prepares to welcome President Xi Jinping on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi coined a new terminology to describe India-China relationship calling it “Inch towards Miles”.
“I believe that tomorrow’s meeting will mark a happy beginning of this “Inch (India-China) towards Miles (Millennium of Exceptional Synergy) goal,” he told the Chinese media in an interaction on Tuesday.
Modi warned though that for strengthening relations, the two countries should show mutual sensitivity to each other’s concerns and aspirations and follow the principle of “mutual and equal security”. Modi told Chinese journalists that relations between India and China went beyond plain arithmetic and that they had a unique chemistry “that can make for a defining moment”.
Modi, however, remained non-committal on Xi’s invitation to India to join his maritime silk road initiative. “Successful revival of the ancient trade routes require not only physical con nectivity and infrastructure, but even more important, a climate of peace, stability , mutual trust and respect and free flow of commerce and ideas...,“ Modi said.
Xi is expected to announce investments worth billions of dollars in India's railway , manufacturing and infrastructure projects.
China's plans to invest around US $ 500 billion overseas in the next five years, a share of which is expected to find India's way .
There has been speculation that China could invest $100 billion in India next year, not withstanding that China's total Outbound Direct Investment just crossed US $90 billion in 2013.
