Adani Wilmar Buys Kohinoor Basmati for India Region

Staples and packaged foods maker Adani Wilmar has acquired basmati rice brand Kohinoor for the India region from McCormick Switzerland for an undisclosed amount.

Kohinoor’s brand portfolio comprises the flagship premium basmati rice, mid-segment Charminar and the Trophy range which it services to hotels, restaurants and catering.

Adani Wilmar’s existing portfolio of products includes edible oils, rice and pulses under the Fortune brand. The company is a joint venture between India’s Adani Group and Singapore’s Wilmar International.

“The addition of Kohinoor’s domestic brand portfolio strengthens our position in the food-FMCG category; it gives us the ability to scale up with value added products,” Adani Wilmar md Angshu Mallick said.

He said acquisitions would be core to the company’s growth, within staples and value-added foods businesses.

“This (deal) leverages the reach of the Kohinoor brand to drive synergies across geographies,” the company said in a stock exchange filing.
