India will soon introduce next-generation e-passport for its citizens. According to Secretary in MEA, Sanjay Bhattacharya, these passports will comprise secure biometric data and ensure smooth passage through immigration posts globally.
“It has been the endeavour of the Ministry to enhance passport services and introduce new features,” said MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi. The government had announced in 2016 that new generation e-passport featuring enhanced security features such as bio-metric details may soon be rolled out.
The e-passport is likely to secure the data and curb the menace of fake passports. An e-Passport contains an electronic chip.
