The City Improvement Committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation has given its nod for the high capacity mass transit route, also known as the inner ring road, at a projected cost of ₹6,646 crore.
The civic body will soon appoint a consultant for this project.
The HCMTR will pass through Bopodi, Pune University chowk, Senapati Bapat Road, Paud Road, Karve Road, Dattawadi, Sarasbaug, Swargate, Nehru Road, Lullanagar, Wanowrie, Ramwadi. Mundhwa, Vadagaon sheri, Vimannagar and Vishrantwadi.
CIC president Mahesh Ladkat said that while HCMTR had been pending for years, the PMC has modified the plan and it will now be a completely elevated road. This 35.96-km road will have six lanes, of which two lanes will be reserved for the Bus Rapid Transit System.
Of the estimated cost of the project of ₹6,646 crore, ₹1,550 crore is land acquisition cost.
The PMC had formed a special cell to speed up the HCMTR works. The route was first proposed in the Development Plan of 1987.
