With the land acquisition collector’s office starting the process for awarding the compensation for 112 hectares of land in Sonipat, the 121. 7 kilometres Haryana Orbital Rail corridor project on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway will soon chug its way out of papers.
According to information, the Sonipat office has already completed the process of identification of land owners and has is in the last stage of acquisition, which is announcement of compensation for land. Notably, Rs 5,617 crore project which will connect Kundli of Sonipat with Palwal via Manesar and Sohna was given a go ahead by the Union government in 2020.
Consequently, the work had begin and March 31, 2025 is the target for completion of the project. According to project report, once in operation, the rail corridor will serve around 20,000 passengers travelling between the industrial hubs of Haryana between Kundli to Palwal. Besides this, 50 million tonne goods will also be transported every year.
Officials in the chief minister office said similar kind of exercise was also started in Gurgaon, Nuh and Palwal districts for the acquisition of land. In all the four districts, the land is either part clear or in possession of KMP on western expressway.
Notably, this project had been conceived during the tenure of UPA but was apparently dumped and has been revived by NDA government. Once operational, this will also decongest the National capital territory of Delhi from heavy inward and outward traffic moving between Kundli, Manesar and Palwal.
