Assam flood toll goes up to 186

Assam reported six more deaths from floods since Tuesday, raising the toll to 186 so far in deluge and landslides. While four deaths were reported on Tuesday, two more deaths were confirmed by Assam state disaster management authority on Wednesday. The daily bulletin issued by the ASDMA said the two deaths were reported from Kamrup (Metro) and Nagaon districts in the last 24 hours.

It added that 20 districts — Bajali, Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tamulpur remain affected by floods as on Wednesday evening.

Despite significant improvement in the flood situation, the ASDMA said 9.68 lakh people still remain affected by floods, while 19,589.47 hectares of cropland are under water. 5.69 lakh people are affected by floods in Cachar district.
