Shimla: Heavy snowfall cracks 19-year-old record

Shimla recorded 57cm snowfall in 24 hours, breaking a 19-year-old record. On February 12, 2002, Shimla had received 54.1cm snow.

People in Shimla had not expected such a heavy snowfall in February which left all roads blocked, snapped electricity supply in many areas and left numerous vehicles stranded. As snowfall stopped on Friday, authorities started clearing snow from the roads and repairing broken power lines. While traffic movement on some roads was restored, many roads were still blocked. Kufri received 60cm snow, the heaviest in the state. Solan and Kasauli too received snowfall.
