Delhi Airport: RFID tags to help flyers track luggage at airport in real time

A radio-frequency identification-enabled personalised baggage tag, “Bagg Trax”, a first-of-its-kind facility in the country that will share details in real time about when and on which belt a passenger’s luggage is arriving, has been introduced at the Delhi airport. The unique tags will soon be commercially launched for flyers who can buy them at the departures. As part of the pilot project, Bagg Trax tags are being given to select frequent flyers at Terminal-3 only. The tags will give passengers peace of mind and allow them to plan and utilise their time better at the airport’s arriving terminals. To avail of this facility, passengers will have to register their RFID-enabled baggage tag by scanning the QR code given on the box or visit “Bag. Hoi. in”.

Passengers will get an SMS on their registered mobile number after the successful registration of the tag. Once the tag is registered, all a passenger has to do is to tie the tag or place it in- to their check-in luggage. They will get the message on their mobile that their luggage is ready to be picked up at the designated baggage belt. “The Delhi airport is a pioneer in using the technology to give a world-class experience to the passengers. The introduction of Bagg Trax is yet another technology driven initiative of DIAL to give an enhanced passenger experience. Now, passengers will not have to wait anxiously until their luggage reaches the delivery area, as they will get all information about their baggage. During this time, they can meet their other needs. The facility will also help reduce the crowd near the baggage belts,” said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO, Delhi International Airport Limited.
