The Tamil Nadu government issued an order permitting all shops and establishments across the state to remain open 24x7 — initially for a period of three years — with certain conditions.
As per the notification, an employer shall not require or allow any employee to work for more than eight hours on any day and 48 hours in any week. Period of work including overtime shall not exceed ten and a half hours in any day. It said woman employee shall not be required to work beyond 8 pm on any day.
Every employee shall be given one holiday a week and the employer shall exhibit details of employees who are on holiday/leave on a daily basis.
